More than an adventure: making a difference together
A SAC rally is an experience you will never forget. Days full of adventure, encounters, challenges and stories that will stay with you forever. But there is more to it than that: the opportunity to do something good with this adventure.
It has always been part of the basic idea behind SAC rallies not only to collect unforgettable experiences on the road, but also to give something back and make the world a little bit better. That's why we ask all SAC teams to collect donations for charitable causes in the run-up to and during the rallies. Not as a compulsory programme or competition – but with heart, ideas and the good feeling of making a difference.
Each team chooses its own heartfelt project for which it would like to collect donations. A project, organisation or initiative that is personally important to you. This way, you can combine your adventure with a good cause – in an honest, personal and effective way.
Why charity is part of SAC
SAC rallies bring people together. They release energy, inspire ideas, and create community—and that's often what sparks the desire to give something back.
SAC teams have been harnessing this energy for many years to inspire people to support a good cause—especially when you put your heart and soul into it. Whether among friends, in the professional environment, or in public, many small actions together create something big.
Since 2011, SAC teams have raised over 7.5 million euros for charitable projects. Not because they have to, but because it feels right and because joint engagement is simply a joy.
Your heart's project – your decision
The SAC Charity Program is deliberately open-ended. Each team decides for itself which charitable project to support.
This could be a large organization, a local initiative, an association in your hometown, or a project that is very close to your heart. The size of the project is not important, but rather your connection to it. If you are passionate about your chosen project, your fundraising campaign will be authentic—and that is what makes it effective.
100% of the donations collected will go to your chosen project.
Fundraising — easily, creative, and your way
Fundraising should feel good and suit your team.
That's why SAC doesn't have a fixed procedure or a “right” or “wrong” way to do it.
Many teams start their campaign as soon as they register, while others develop their ideas during the preparation phase or around the start date. Some campaigns are planned, others arise spontaneously – that's what makes it so varied.
Collect donations online
One easy way is to collect donations via an online donation page, for example via GoFundMe.com or WhyDonate.com. There you can present your heartfelt project, tell your story, and give your supporters an easy way to accompany and support you.
The practical thing about this is that you get a direct link to your donation page, which you can easily share via WhatsApp, email, or social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn). This allows friends, family, and colleagues to donate with just a few clicks—even if they are not locally.
Online fundraising campaigns are also transparent (you can see the progress) and can be supplemented with updates, stories, and new images at any time.
Collect donations offline
Traditional methods are just as welcome: campaigns among friends, at work, in clubs, or in the neighborhood. A donation box, a small event, or personal conversations often work particularly well because they are direct and personal.
Whether online or offline—both are equally valuable. In the end, it's the idea and the commitment behind it that counts.
Ideas for how teams can raise funds
Many teams come up with creative ideas. For example:
- Involve friends, family, colleagues, or business partners
- Share the campaign on social media
- Contact local media or initiatives
- Host a fundraising party or charity dinner
- Organize a flea market or raffle
- Team challenge for supporters: Supporters donate, and in return the team completes pre-announced tasks during the rally, which are later shared as updates or social media posts.
- Rally stickers for the car: Supporters or charity partners are immortalized with personalized stickers on the rally vehicle.
There are countless ways. And often, collecting donations during the rally preparations becomes a little adventure in itself.
Donations can be collected from the time of registration until the end of the rally.
When can you collect donations?
Donations can be collected from the moment you register until the end of the rally. Many teams start as early as the preparation phase, while others implement specific campaigns around the start or during the rally.
There is no set time frame—you decide when and how your fundraising campaign begins and ends.
How do you verify your donation amount?
So that we can announce the total amount donated by all teams at the start and finish of the rally, we would be grateful if you could let us know your current donation total during check-in/accreditation. This is very straightforward and, of course, voluntary—it is not about individual team amounts, but the combined total of all teams.
You can also send us proof of your donation, but this is not mandatory:
- Online fundraising campaigns: Link to the donation page or a screenshot showing the current amount
- Offline fundraising campaigns: E.g., donation receipt or deposit slip for your favorite charity
The most important thing for us is to have an up-to-date overview at the start and finish so that we can show what is possible as a community.
GoFundMe.com or WhyDonate.com – two options for online donations
For international or Europe-wide teams, GoFundMe and WhyDonate are great alternatives for collecting donations online. Both platforms are easy to use, transparent and designed to make online fundraising straightforward for teams and supporters alike.
You can create your own donation page, share your story, and collect donations from friends, family, sponsors and supporters around the world. The donation pages can be shared easily via link, email or social media, and you can always keep track of your fundraising progress.
How to set up a donation page on GoFundMe or WhyDonate is explained step by step directly on the respective platforms. Simply follow the instructions on their websites to get started.
