February & March are the best months to take in the bright spectacle of the Northern Lights—AKA the aurora borealis—in Northern Scandinavia.
Under clear skies, this is what you can look forward to:
- 9 of 10 nights in the region Tromsø, northern Norway
- 8 of 10 nights near Kiruna in northern Sweden
- 7 of 10 nights in the Finnish Lapland
Even in winter, the sun shines in the Arctic!
At the time the rally takes place (end of February/beginning of March), the days are already more than 10 hours long.
The sun rises at around 7 a.m. and sets around 5 p.m.
And at night under the moonlight, the snow shines brilliantly, too!
Starting Line and Finish Line in Hamburg
7,500 km in 16 days through
- Scandinavia:
Denmark, Sweden, Norway & Finland - Arctic Circle, Lapland & North Cape
- Through Finland to Helsinki
- Baltic States:
Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania - Poland & Germany
From setting up a makeshift camp right on a glacier, to sharing a log cabin with the local beavers, to booking a luxury hotel complete with a bottle of bubbly—anything goes! Choose your own lodgings depending on your budget and your notion of “adventure.”
Even playing it by ear and deciding as you go has worked out for teams in the past and generally isn’t a problem in the time period the rally takes place.
The conditions of the roads during the rally couldn’t be any more unpredictable:
from dry asphalt lanes at 10 degrees C,
to snow-covered dirt roads
at minus 20 degrees C,
through to icy pothole parkour tours
at 0 degrees C.
Anything’s possible and there’s a little something for everyone!
Just as with any adventure rally—but especially in winter—choosing the right tires is a science unto itself.
Really good winter tires are an absolute must!
Whether you’re allowed to use spiked/studded tires depends on each country’s road regulations. If you want to cruise with spikes, you should wait until Scandinavia to put them on, as they are generally forbidden in Germany.

On the evenings prior, all adventurers can already get to know each other at the pre-adventure-get-together and get in the mood for the upcoming adventures. The events will start around 6pm.
Of course, all friends and fans are welcome.
At the Starting Line of the BSC Winter Edition in Hamburg, your team will be given the Roadbook, which is packed with useful tips for your route, unbelievable challenges, and plenty of suggestions to maximize your fun and get the most out of your adventure.
The activities and adventures are best undertaken as a team. Creativity and a talent for improvisation are your best assets here!
On the way around the Baltic Sea we celebrate with you awesome rally events.
At the Arctic Circle we will be enchanted by the mystical Northern Lights and the North Cape and test the limits of our vehicles on an Ice Drift Track.
And in the Baltic States we will pitch our "tents" together for a winter bivouac party.
Where and what exactly happens, remains our secret until the start...
With the SAC Live Tracking App for all rally teams, your friends, relatives and colleagues can follow your team live during the rally.
With the app you can view your driven route as well as rally statistics and add photos, videos and comments to the individual stages. You can also create a professionally designed photo book with all your rally memories after the rally.
In Hamburg we’ll celebrate the successful completion of the BSC Winter Edition with a big finish line event and of course we’ll crown the winners!
