East or WestVintage cars at its best

Your rally car only has to meet one requirement for the most wicked road trip across South-Eastern Europe: It must have style! Whether old school or new school, it's the spirit of adventure that counts.

Friends of the Eastern European automobile tradition choose Wartburg 311, Škoda Felicia, Tatra 700, Dacia 1300 or Eastern Bloc all-purpose vehicles like Lada Niva and Trabant for the gravel roads and rugged coastlines on the Adriatic Sea.
Those who like it robust from the west will grab old school dream cars like: BMW 735i, Citroën DS, Audi 100, VW Golf I or northern lights like Volvo 240 and Saab 900 for the winding passes in the Carpathians and the High Tatras.

Newtimer, classic & vintage cars, individual and with character, are the perfect adventure vehicles for this unique challenge.

Car Challenge:

We created the Car Challenge to honor teams with real road legends and iconic cars. We know that participants with these old-school vehicles have to master the rally and its challenges under much tougher conditions.

Therefore, the following applies: The older the vehicle, the more points in the Roadbook Competition.

In the Car Challenge, teams with classic & vintage vehicles that are at least 20 years old receive additional points in the Roadbook Competition. Old school is always cool!

How do I get my hands on an old-school rally vehicle?

Sneak a peek into great-uncle Nikolai’s garage! If you aren’t lucky enough to find a dusty but road-ready Dacia calling your name in there, then it may be time to get online. On the internet, you’ll find a wide variety of stylin’ old-school cars, motorcycles, and trucks, any of which might be perfect for your road trip and also conform to the rules and regs of the Balkan Express rally.

Is it necessary to modify the vehicle?

You can participate in the rally with any normal, roadworthy vehicle—no special modifications are required.

Modifying, upgrading, pimping, lowering, raising... All of this is of course also permitted. So, if you want to spend a lot of money converting your car into the ultimate rally vehicle, you are allowed to do so.
All modifications must of course be road legal and comply with the technical inspection regulations of the country in which the vehicle is registeredd.

What will happen to our beloved rally vehicle after we cross the Finish Line?

That’s up to you! How about just happily driving it home, you full of adventure and the car full of luggage, and rolling up in it again next year for the next rally?!

Sustainability concept

In all SAC Rallyes, resources are conserved and cultural assets are protected by the preservation and use of modern classic or vintage cars. It is a sign against the throwaway society and against the general consumer behaviour. To purchase a new, "fuel-efficient" leasing vehicle every 2 years causes as much CO2 during the production of the vehicle as driving a modern classic or vintage car for 10 years through the countryside.
In the context of the Balkan Express rally the participants travel in 13 days 14 countries in Southeast Europe and cause thereby per person not even a quarter of the CO2 emission of a flight to Mallorca for a long weekend.
Also, the long-lasting impression of this adventure and the experience of the different cultures remains for years. In contrast to an air trip, here the way is still the goal.

The environment thanks!

Since vehicles, no matter if electric vehicle or classic car, always emit CO2, we ask each team for an ECO compensation for the chosen rally vehicle and the driven distance.
The CO2 emissions caused by each rally team can thus be offset elsewhere by supporting climate protection projects.
